I watch the “Rudolph the Red-nosed Reindeer” animation feature with glee each holiday season. On a recent volunteer day, I kept singing “We are Santa’s Elves” because I had the incredible opportunity to be an elf for a day - really and truly.
Now Santa’s busy and I didn’t get to see him but he left his lead elves, called Captains in charge. And, I didn’t actually have to travel the distance to the North Pole - I only needed to visit the Salvation Army Warehouse for Allegheny County in Pittsburgh, PA to join hundreds of other elves sorting and packing holiday toys for over 20,000 children this week for the “Treasures for Children” program. Mountains of donated toys bring smiles on Christmas morning to thousands of children whose holidays are not those of sugarplums and tinsel.
